HBOミニシリーズ『ミルドレッド・ピアース 幸せの代償』について記事を書きました。
ジェームズ・M・ケインの小説Mildred Pierce（1941）は、1945年にマイケル・カーティスによって映画化されている。それから70年後、トッド・ヘインズがカーティス版のリメイクではなく、ケイン小説を一から映像化したのがHBOミニシリーズの『ミルドレッド・ピアース 幸せの代償』(Mildred Pierce）である。本作にみる視線の意味に着目して記事を書いた。
James M. Cain's 1941 novel Mildred Pierce was adapted into a 1945 Hollywood film Mildred Pierce by Michael Curtis. Seventy years after the publication of the novel, Todd Haynes brought back Mildred to the livingroom with HBO Mini-series Mildred Pierce (2011). It's not a remake of Curtis's 1945 film but an entirely new creation based on Cain's original novel; the mini-series format allowed Haynes to explore small but importtant details in the novel. The following review focuses on the significance of female gaze and its possibility in Haynes's work.
